Cat biting louse and egg cases (Felicola subrostratus). The cat biting louse is the only louse ectoparasite occurring on cats. Ectoparasites are parasites that live on the external body of the host. Other non-louse ectoparasites on cats are fleas (insects) and mites (arachnids). Biting lice have mouthparts that are designed for chewing, not sucking, and they feed on hair or skin scales. An infestation of lice is called pediculosis.
